I enjoy the show but I've heard on the street that there have been mass firings behind the scenes. The scuttlebutt in the industry here in NYC is that ratings are low for Nurse Jackie so the entire hair department, makeup department, and costume department were fired from the upcoming season 3 shooting schedule. Now honestly, how do those 3 departments affect ratings? It seems to be that the producers are throwing all those hard working people under the bus and its very disappointing. This is common in the entertainment business and its just wrong. The producers have made some bad decisions and the show has lost its mojo. The writing is so-so and a favorite character was written off and a new bland character replaced him. The quiet wit has been lost. Just a simple thing like seeing those nuns in the background made this show unique...and the nuns were taken out!

I couldn't agree more blue. If what you say is true, my interest in season 3 is diminishing rapidly. The writers are the ones that should be fired. The whole Eddie thing is just silly, and is a serious departure from the main show premise. I enjoy edie falco, but I'm growing rather bored of this show :(

I bought the 1st season box set and watched the full season through once. Typical Edie Falco performance!!! Great series, just one question. Maybe I missed it but if Jackie and Jerry both worked at the hospital for over ten years, how could Jerry not know about Jackie's marriage and two children ? Did I miss that?

I especially like Jackies approach to life, and death. I think the show about her friend Paula dying was brilliant. Jackie shows compassion coupled with intelligence. She did what her friend needed, and IMO, should be a decision that is personal and humane if there is no chance of recovery. Assisted death is not a new idea, but certainly one that is needed. Most of our health dollars are spent at the end of life to no use. If your dying, last ditch treatments are torturous, and futile. However, I am referring to terminal end stage patients who are in pain.

I have often thought that this would be a great business venture, to make dying a fun, and loving business. I think it would be nice if you went to some lovely resort, or cruise ship. You pay them, just like a funeral home. Upon arrival, you are fitted with a small IV. For up to two weeks, you should have anything you want to eat, do anything pleasurable, spend time with your family and friends while being treated like a guest. Beautiful surroundings, movies, formal dinners, fresh food, the best, and lots of entertainment. Parties, champagne etc. Then when you feel you are ready, they just put the medicine in the IV, and off you go. The last dog I euthanized had this. I gave him a prime steak the night before. Valium before he went to the vets, and he died in my arms. We wouldn't let our pets suffer, why should we let our parents and grandparents? I think our society has everything backwards. Rather torture those in pain, and putting them in a depressing home, celebrate their life, and drug them to oblivion so they can enjoy their last moments. They could charge a fee for this service if you want the deluxe end treatment.

Episode 6 (of 12) was broadcast last night (Monday) on BBC 2, and dealt with a very sensitive topic in an appropriate and understanding manner. This really is a wonderful show, with a first class cast and writers.

I was BLOWN AWAY by Tracy Ullman's cameo appearance. What a fabulous addition to the already quirky cast, that has really bonded. The show has a real development now, and so much has been revealed. Dr. Coop really having a different childhood, Zoe seeming to be finding her place on the team, Everyone else hanging together as a team, and a cast. Bringing up euthanasia as a social issue had punch and relevance. It's about time some serial or soap brought about this most disturbing issue my generation is facing. I'm 58. Having to care for your parents and your children at the same time is really a problem. I still have 3 in college, and an 86 yr old Dad. I'm lucky the other 3 died young. My kids are still young, and can't get married until at least 30, after all the schooling they need for a career. Tracy was fab. Perfect role for her. so funny, loved it They handled it beautifully. Now if I could have the morphine/champagne cocktail on a beach, with a last supper of caviar and lobster, vintage champagne and a spa day with massage and any other pampering, I'd call that an up and coming business! That's how I want to go, regardless of the illness. This is a real worry for the baby boomers generation, as technology and medicine is really going to leave a lot of us very old.

Does anyone else think this show is partially inspired by the Darwin Awards? Two weeks in a row now Jackie has treated patients with very strange and humiliating injuries. And she's always so understanding (probably because of her awareness of her own weaknesses).
Should I ever wind up with a hugely embarrassing injury caused by own stupidity (god forbid), I'd much rather have Jackie smirk at me than have House give me that "how stupid are you?" glare of his.

Showtime is giving a second season order to "Nurse Jackie" after the Edie Falco drama became Showtime's most-watched series premiere ever Monday night.
"Jackie" was seen by 1 million viewers, then gathered another 350,000 watchers during its same-night repeat for a total of 1.35 million viewers. That surpasses the prior same-night series premiere record holder, "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," which opened to about 950,000 viewers last year."
